Twitter, Tag, and Poke: Demystifying Web 2.0
Backward Design
The Center
for Academic Excellence and Student Engagement is offering two summer
workshops on
Backward Design
during the summer of 2008. The workshops are intended for educators
interested in enhancing student understanding by designing more effective
courses. Using the principles of Backward Design participants will learn how
to write quality learner outcomes and develop measurable assessment
strategies. In addition, participants will develop one or more interactive
teaching strategies to support their
redesigned course.
Those
interested in participating will receive a $1,000 stipend. In order to
receive a stipend participants will be required to:
- meet during
scheduled workshop meeting times
- redesign a course
syllabus that will be shared with the
campus using Backward Design principles
- write a one page
reflection paper

Schedule
Two workshop sessions
will be offered:
Workshop 1 will meet
June 9-13, 2008 in LRC 507
Workshop 2 will meet
August 4-8, 2008 in
Participants will meet
from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Monday-Friday during
both workshops. Afternoons will be spent completing morning activities.

The Center for Academic Excellence
and Student Engagement is offering a scholarship of teaching and learning
workshop for Advancing Research in Teaching and
Learning. The goal of the workshop is to
prepare faculty and academic teaching staff to develop and submit scholarly
research in teaching and learning for publication. Upon completion of the
workshop, participants will have

Participants in this workshop will receive a $500 stipend
which will be paid upon completion of all of the following:
1. pre and post online surveys
2. workshop attendance, May 19-21 and
June 18
3. posting of completed scholarly
research to the workshop's online
forum

Mashup, Twitter, Tag and Poke: Demystifying Web 2.0
June 16, 2008
9:00 a.m.– 3:30 p.m.
LRC 107
Mashup, Twitter, Tag and Poke, the language of Web 2.0 is becoming
increasingly popular in higher education. Web 2.0 includes Social
Networking, Social Bookmarking, Picture Sharing, and Mashup tools. This one
day event includes introductions to and examples of
Delicious, Flickr, Google Docs, and
Wikis in higher education in the morning. There will be how-to session in
the afternoon.
