This is an invitation to join Teaching Partners for 2007-8. The Program, now in its 14th year, is organized and

new health science faculty and Jasia Steinmetz (dietetics)
Carol Hebert (health sciences) and Cindy Forster (CD)
We are planning our first of three meetings Thursday, August 23 from noon to 2:30, beginning with lunch in Room
CPS 222. This first meeting is crucial and I hope all of you can be there. This is when you meet with your partner
and make plans for the year.
The heart of this Program is the partnership itself, along with the structured opportunities for them to work together
on teaching issues. It is designed for anyone with an interest in teaching.
Core elements of the Teaching Partners Program are:
- The partners each lead a “Student-Guided Instructional Diagnosis” (SGID) process in one of each other’s classes,
proceeded and followed by discussion about values, assumptions and goals for the class. This is the heart of the
program and should be done once a semester.
- We get together the week before the Fall term, the week before the Spring term, and at the end of the year to share
experiences and discuss teaching issues. We are still working on the January and May dates.
- Partners have access to $100 each to use for any professional purpose. These funds are available through Jill
x4608 in my office.
- We will subscribe to a teaching journal (or two) and circulate it/them during the year. We have also ordered
copies of the Angelo and Cross book, Classroom Assessment Techniques
or Dee Fink's new book Designing Significant Learning Experiences
for each of you. We will give you a big packet of articles on teaching at the first meeting and you have access
to the CPS Teaching/Learning Library in 109 CPS.
- My office offers funding for up to two of you who want to attend a conference on teaching sometime this year or
summer 2008.
- The CPS Focus on Teaching website is under “resources” “focus on teaching” or
http://www.uwsp.edu/cps/resources/learning/.
There are some wonderful links to information about all aspects of teaching and learning and to teaching/learning
conferences. It is well worth many visits.
- Donna Zimmerman is the coordinator for the Teaching Partners Program so if you have some ideas or special needs or
you cannot attend the first meeting, contact her at x4426 or 677-6708.
See you on the 23rd.
