Summer 2008 Workshops
The
Center for Academic Excellence and Student Engagement is offering two summer
workshops on
Backward Design
during the summer of 2008. The workshop is intended for educators interested
in enhancing student understanding by designing more effective curricula
and course assessments. Using the principles of Backward Design,
participants will redesign an existing course. In the process of redesigning
their course, participants will learn how to write quality learner
outcomes and develop measurable assessment strategies. In addition,
participants will develop one or more active and/or collaborative teaching
strategies that will support their redesigned curriculum.
Those
interested in participating will receive a $1,000 stipend. In order to
receive a stipend, participants will be required to:
-
meet during scheduled workshop meeting
times
-
redesign a course syllabus using
Backward Design principles
-
write a one page reflection paper
-
share their redesigned course with the campus
community
