Materials for Retention and Promotion Files
The following information refers to files that
are received for review in the Office of Academic Affairs.
Additional materials may be required by your College or Department.
Required Materials for Files Received in Academic
Affairs
- Dean's recommendation
- Chair/Supervisor's Recommendation (if separate from
department's)
- Department/Personnel Committee Recommendation Colleague
- Committee/Evaluation Subcommittee Report, if applicable
- Summary of ratings for global questions (6 & 7) on the
Student Evaluation of Instruction form for a minimum of three
preceding years for academic staff member and for department
comparison group (an average for each year and an overall
average is most helpful)
- Current vita
Desirable Materials for Files Received in
Academic Affairs
- Individual peer observation reports
- Chart of ratings for questions 6 & 7 on the Student
Evaluation of Instruction form:
- for retention: ratings for the last three years or since
hire if employed by UWSP for less than three years
- for promotion or indefinite status: ratings for the
period since the last personnel action (appointment or
promotion)
- Student comments - typed list by course, not individual
sheets
- Brief (no more than two pages) self evaluation
- Copy of the department personnel rules for teaching academic
staff promotion or indefinite status, if applicable
Use of a small three-ring binder with tabs
separating the different kinds of materials is helpful.
In some cases additional documentation may be requested if needed
for adequate review.
