Communication in the Major:
Oral Communication Workshops

The new GEP includes a Communication in the Major requirement that is embedded in each major on campus. Instructors offering Communication in the Major courses are required to complete a training, which has two components: Written Communication and Oral Communication.

This page provides additional information about Oral Communication.

Facilitated by Cade Spaulding (Division of Communication), each Oral Communication workshop is approximately two hours long and will address the following learning outcomes:

As a result of completing the Oral Communication workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify basic skills and understandings students have about content, structure, and delivery after taking Communication 101
  • Recognize common oral communication obstacles and how to avoid them
  • Develop alternative oral communication activities to the “student presentation” default for current course offerings
  • Create customized assessment rubrics based on established AAC&U’s VALUE rubrics
