Surplus Property Policy & Procedures
SURPLUS PROPERTY POLICY & PROCEDURES FOR COMPUTERS AND OTHER TECHNOLOGY
EQUIPMENT
"Surplus property" at UWSP is defined by the State as "State property that
does not meet program needs, does not function, is technically or mechanically
obsolete, or is not needed in the foreseeable future to meet program
responsibilities and has been replaced due to a replacement schedule."
Information Technology has been delegated the authority to review computers,
printers, and other computer hardware to assure equipment functionality prior to
delivery of items to the Surplus department. Please disperse all
technology items not needed in your department to Information Technology
(contact Help Desk 346-HELP (4357) or 1-877-832-8977,
helpdesk@uwsp.edu.)
Technology equipment and equipment parts that are determined to be re-usable
will be distributed on campus as needed. This is of benefit to the Campus
because equipment can often be repaired at little or no cost by utilizing spare
parts obtained from pre-surplus equipment.
Property that is beyond its usefulness to the University will be sent to the
Surplus Property Store for sale to the general public. Due to licensing
restrictions, personal computers are sold without operating systems or
applications software. All technology equipment (computers, monitors,
printers, and related equipment) is sold as is. The buyer receives NO
warranty and NO guarantee. Buyers are NOT entitled to receive repair,
parts, advice, or any other service from UW-Stevens Point's Information
Technology Department for any technology equipment purchased through UW-Stevens
Point Surplus Sales.
