Vista Wireless Setup

IMPORTANT: The first time you connected to the UWSP Wireless network, Windows Vista may have been set to cache your password.  When you change your UWSP password Windows Vista will attempt to connect using the old cached password, which may result in your account becoming locked.  To work around this, after you have changed your password follow these instructions.

 

Setting up WPA (802.1x authentication) for Windows Vista

  1. From the Control Panel select Classic View.
  2. Click Network and Sharing Center.

  3. Click Setup a connection or network

  4. Select Manually connect to a wireless network and click Next.

  5. Enter/select the following information and click Next
    • Network name: UWSPWIRELESS
      NOTE: UWSPWIRELESS must be capitalized
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type: TKIP

  6. Select Change connection settings.

  7. Select the Security tab and click the Settings... button.

  8. Uncheck Validate server certificate and click the Configure... button.

  9. Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any). Click OK and OK and click Next.

  10. Select UWSPWIRELESS and click the Connect button.

  11. Enter the following information and click OK:
    • User name: your UWSP logon name
    • Password: your UWSP password
    • Domain: UWSPDOM

  12. You should now be connected to the UWSP Wireless network.
