The constitution of the Sigma Mu Tau Society of Clinical Laboratory Science, Pre-Nursing and Allied Health Professions.

University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point

Preamble

The purpose of this local organization shall be to develop social and professional interests in the fields of Clinical Laboratory Science, Pre-Nursing, and other health care related fields among the students of the University of WI - Stevens Point and to bring about educational interaction between the students of the University and the educational coordinators affiliated with various hospitals and other organizations.

Article I: Name

The name of the organization shall be the Sigma Mu Tau of the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Article II: Membership

Section 1. Full membership: Any full or part-time student enrolled in Clinical Laboratory Science, Pre-Nursing or other health care related fields with a minimum 2.0 cummulative GPA may become a member of the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Sigma Mu Tau society. Any full member has voting privaleges.

Section 2. Associate membership: Any person interested in the fields of Clinical Laboratory Science, Pre-Nursing or any other health care related field may become an associate member, without voting privileges.

Article III: Officers

The purpose of this local organization shall be to develop social and professional interests in the fields of Clinical Laboratory Science, Pre-Nursing, and other health care related fields among the students of the University of WI - Stevens Point and to bring about educational interaction between the students of the University and the educational coordinators affiliated with various hospitals and other organizations.

Section 1. Names: The officers of the Sigma Mu Tau shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary / Treasurer.

Section 2. Elections: Officers shall be nominated by the members and elected by a majority of the active full members at the April meeting, who will be assuming the respective offices at the beginning of the following academic year (August).

Section 3. Vacancies: If any vacancy occurs, it will be filled by a special election at the next regular meeting.

Section 4. Eligibility: Any full-member of the Sigma Mu Tau, in good academic standing (cum. GPA of 2.0 or above).

Section 5. Term of office: The term of office for the officers of the Sigma Mu Tau shall be for one calendar year beginning in August.

Section 6. Duties of the officers:

Subsection A. President: The president shall preside over all regular and special meetings; appoint all necessary committees; maintain execution of all rules and regulations; perform other duties pertaining to the office; and generally supervise the actions of the society.

Subsection B. Vice-President: The vice-president shall preside in the absence of the president; serve as executive assistant; and perform other duties as may be assigned.

Subsection C. Secretary / Treasurer: The secretary / treasurer shall keep minutes of Sigma Mu Tau proceeding in a permanent book; attend to all correspondence of the society; and perform other duties pertaining to the office.

The secretary / treasurer shall receive and collect all dues for Sigma Mu Tau; keep records of all expenditures and receipts; and give accurate reports at each business meeting. Routine bills governing the club's expenses may be paid without special executive authorization. The treasurer's records must be available for the inspection of the officers and advisors of the Sigma Mu Tau at any time. All books must be kept in accordance with university regulations.

Acticle IV: Advisor

The advisor for the Sigma MuTau shall be the Chair of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Science or a member of the Clinical Laboratory Science faculty or academic staff, University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point.

Article V: Committees

There shall be sno standing committees, but the officers may appoint any necessary committees. Majority action of the members present at a meeting may recommend appointments for any committee.

Article VI: Meetings

Section 1. Frequency: There shall be one meeting per month during the months of regular school sessions. Days and times to be decided at the beginning of each semester.

Section 2. Special meetings: Additional meetings may be called, or meetings may be rescheduled at the discretion of any two officers or at the petition of membership majority.

Section 3. Rules: The rules of parliamentary procedure will prevail at each meeting.

Article VII: Finances

The dues shall be $2.00 per semester payable at the beginning of each semester. Those delinquent in payment of dues will be restricted in organization activities.

In the event Sigma Mu Tau is dissolved, the following procedure for the disbursement of funds should be followed. If Student Government Association funds are allocated to Sigma Mu Tau, those funds will be returned to SGA upon the organization's dissolution. All remaining funds will be allocated to the Clinical Laboratory Science Alumni Scholarship fund.

Article VIII: Ammendments

Amendments to the constitution of By-laws may be proposed by any member in good standing at the regular meeting. Amendments must be submitted to the members for ballot no later than two months after being received. An affirmative vote of three-fourths of the voting membership is necessary for the adoption of an amendment.

Article IX: Date of constitution

Last reviewed: December 6th, 2001.

The constitution shall be updated a minimum of once every three years.
