Health Care Informatics Options

The field of health care informatics requires a diverse range of knowledge and skills in the management of health information. Graduates entering the field may expect to develop information systems for quality patient care, facility reimbursement, medical research, health planning, and health care evaluation. The job outlook is very favorable, with opportunities located in settings such as hospitals, ambulatory care settings, home health agencies, and nursing homes. Employment opportunities also exist in education, research, consulting, sales, insurance companies, and with state and national health care organizations.

Students within the Health Care Informatics option of the Health Science major are prepared to become effective partners with other information technology professionals in the problem-solving activities within their organizations. To this end, coursework consists of a liberal arts education with emphasis in computer information systems and accounting.
