Physical Education Major

Physical Education Major:  Consists of the following credits:

1. Required: P ED 105, 150, 200, 201, 220, 260, 271, 280, 310, 315, 331, 380, 391, 400, 428; HP/W 312; PEX 400, 401; WLNS 205.

2.   Collateral requirements that also apply toward GDR requirements:

      a.   Laboratory science: Biology 160, 285; Chemistry 101 or Physics 101.

      b.   GDR requirements for DPI certification: History 211 and 212; Psych 110; Poli Sci 101 or 201.

      c.   First Aid/CPR: WLNS 123.

      d.   Education 205, 351, 381, 386, P ED 398, 400.

      e.   GPA of 2.75 in physical education courses.

3.   Admission Requirements:Incoming freshmen and transfers will be classified as “Pre-majors.”New students must follow these procedures to apply to be “Accepted Majors.”

a.   Before you apply, complete or be in progress with good standing in the following:P ED 105, 150, 220, 271; BIO 160; CHEM or PHY 101; with a grade of C- or better.Note:P ED 105 and 220, as courses essential to the UWSP major, must be taken at UW-Stevens Point.

b.   You must have a minimum 2.75 grade point average in all credits attempted.

c.   Apply to the School of Education for acceptance into the Professional Education Program when the courses listed in “a” are completed.

d.   The number of seats available in the School of Education will determine the number of pre-majors accepted as majors.

e.   Admission to the School of Education is a prerequisite for enrollment in the following courses:P ED 260, 280, 200-201, 310, 331, 380, 391, 428; PEX 400-401; HP/W 312.

4.   Refer to the Education section in the UWSP catalog for information about admission to the Professional Education Program and teacher certification. NOTE: To graduate with a comprehensive physicaleducation major, you must successfully complete all teacher certification requirements including student teaching in physical education.

5.   To repeat a course, follow UWSP policy. The last of the grades for repeated courses will be calculated into your GPA.No credit received for “special work” courses (199, 299, 399) may be calculated in the cumulative GPA required for admittance into the program.
