Consists of the academic and clinical
program.
1. Academic Program: Consists of:
a. The Bachelor of Science or Arts

2. Required: AT 181, 182, 200,
201, 251, 300, 301, 302, 303, 362, 370,

Nutrition 253; Clinical Lab Science 295;

3. Collateral requirements:

2. Clinical Practicum:
Complete seven credits awarded for
clinical practicum in the following
rotations:

3. Complete a minimum of 1,500 field
experience hours under the direct
supervision of a NATABOC certified
athletic trainer. These hours must be
attained after acceptance into the
program. If accreditation requirements
change, the number of hours may change.

Affiliation Agreements:
This University has affiliation
agreements with the following facilities
to provide clinical practicum education
for students. The clinical supervisors
and instructors of the affiliated sites
are extended university associate
appointments.

Academic
Standards:
Admission requirements:
Incoming freshmen and transfers who
declare an athletic training major are
"pre-majors."
1. Before you apply, complete, or be in
progress with good standing, in the
following: AT 181, AT 182, Biology 160,
Physics 101, HP/W 102, Psychology 110,
WLNS 123, with a grade of C- or better.
2. Students not accepted in their
initial application may reapply the
following spring. Students will continue
work on general degree requirements and
in their minor area of study while
awaiting reapplication.
3. Have a minimum 2.75 grade point
average in all credits attempted.
4. Request and complete the Athletic
Training Educational Program
application.
5. Submit four letters of
recommendation.
6. Signed statement of acceptance for
the athletic training educational
program’s technical standards.
7. Complete the formal interview.
8. Application deadline is March 1.
Admission decisions are provided to
applicant in writing by April 1.
9. Athletic Training courses (courses
beginning with the prefix AT) are to be
completed at the University of Wisconsin
- Stevens Point. Transfer courses in
athletic training from other accredited
UW System programs may be accepted.
However, transfer students must realize
that additional courses may be required
to meet program competencies and
proficiencies. If you are a
transfer student or decide to major in
athletic training after your freshman
year, you may apply to the program after
all pre-application requirements are
complete.
10. Meeting or exceeding the
requirements for eligibility to apply
for the professional program does not
guarantee placement. Acceptance will be
based upon academic credentials,
interviews, and available clinical
sites. Maximum number of students in the
program is 35. Check with chair for
latest requirements.
Upon Acceptance, students must complete:
1. Medical statement (including
immunizations) indicating you are of
good health and are free of
tuberculosis.
2. Hepatitis B vaccination or signed
declination statement
3. Verification of student personal
liability insurance prior to affiliated
rotations.
4. When accepted, students must complete
a background check as required by
regulations in Wisconsin Administrative
Code Chapter HFS 12.
Retention
Standards:
1. Maintain a 3.0 GPA in major and
collateral coursework.
2. Maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA in
all credits attempted.
3. Maintain 3.0 (5.0) clinical
evaluation scores. (Student athletic
trainer evaluation form is based on a
5-point scale.)
4. Conduct oneself in a professional
manner and adhere to the "NATA Code of
Ethics." Failure to meet all of the
retention criteria listed above will
result in being placed on probation in
the Athletic Training major. If the
student does not attain all of the
criteria for active status during the
semester on probation, the student will
be ineligible to continue in the major.
