Adventure Education Minor
Introduction
The Adventure Education minor prescribes
to the UWSP mission to promote health and wellness and responds to the
increased awareness of the growing interest in Adventure Education
curriculum across the nation.
Students that complete the Adventure
Education minor will have the knowledge and ability to safely organize,
implement and manage adventure-learning opportunities for students,
clients, and patients.
Curriculum Overview
The minor focuses on:
- Promoting health and wellness
through course offerings that are
physical in nature
- Promoting healthy, lifelong
activities
- Knowledge and certification as a
Lifeguard and a Wilderness First
Responder
- Implementing adventure
programming into other curriculum
areas; such as Physical Education
and Athletic Training
Benefits of UWSP
Facilities available at UWSP for this
minor are some of the best. A state-of-the-art, 28 foot high, indoor
climbing wall is located on campus in the Health Enhancement Center.
Students are afforded the use of challenge courses in the area, and UWSP
has all the equipment needed to set-up and manage an outdoor top-rope
climbing site.
Knowledge and experience of the UWSP
staff teaching in the minor is top notch. Staff certifications include
courses through the Adventure Based Experiential Education program,
Upward Bound Program, Wilderness First Responder, and American Mountain
Guides Association. Students with a minor in Adventure Education enhance
their major course of study for job opportunities within a school system
or multiple business adventure settings.
