Loan Amount Verification

  • See your loan data—you can go directly to web sites to view your loan history:
    • GLHEC's Borrower Status Tool: check to see your Stafford and PLUS loan history with Wisconsin's loan servicer

    • UWSP's  myPoint student loan history: a good source to see what loans you borrowed at UWSP (includes Perkins Loans)

    • The U.S Department of Education keeps your financial aid history information on file in their National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). You can access this site at http://www.nslds.ed.gov/ to review your financial aid history.

  • Interest deduction - take advantage of this tax relief item and claim a tax deduction for the interest you pay on your college loan.

  • Your loan will probably be sold to anther party—lenders typically sell to a secondary market; keep a copy of all related correspondence so you'll know who owns your loan.

  • Federal Ombudsman - if you have any dispute regarding your loan, you can get help from the U.S. Department of Education Ombudsman web site or
    call 1 (877) 557-2575.
