This project was a huge success! All students participated eagerly each day. I have made the decision to use this project at the beginning of school this fall and continue it throughout the school year

I feel that this project was really a success. Having the players fill out a form of questions and finding out what they are feeling was a great thing. I also had a meeting with each player about how they answered the questions and how they think basketball will help them with the rest of their life. I also discussed ways they think they can improve their individual skills, and then eventually help the team become better. The guys really gave me good feedback and we very cooperative. A few guys even said it was nice to reflect on how basketball is important to them, and also they said they never really thought about how basketball skills can be used in their entire life. I think they enjoyed this project as much as I did.

For this projects I located stories that I used with my students in order to develope appropriate behaviors in various situations. After reading the stories, we role played how we would react to different synarios where we had to make choices between the easy road and the hard road. These students had been exhibiting inappropriate behaviors in the classroom. By using role playing we were able to come up with what they thought an appropriate behavior would be in various situations. It was difficult at first to get the students interested in role playing, but after a few trys, they really got into it. They came up with what they thought were fair consequences for some of the inappropriate behavoirs they had exhibited. We came up with a reward system that had both short term and long term goals. By including them in the process, I think this gave them ownership and they tried hard to meet their goals.

I think this could used in the future and it would be easier to implement, because you would have already layed the ground work. The new students could keep the goals these students set up or they could come up with their own. The more times you role played with the students, the easier it would be to come up with appropriate synarios to use with the students.

For this project I looked through many different physical education books, web sites, and lesson plans to try and find a very good problem solving activity. The activity that I found that I believe would be great for this project is called “survivor”. With this activity you place a mat on the floor on opposite ends of the gym. The students all get on one mat and the object is to get all of the individuals from one mat to the mat at the other end of the gym without touching the floor by using items that they have been given (scooters, jump ropes, hool-a-hoops, blocks, noodles, etc.) If a person touches the floor they must go back to the starting mat. The activity is over when all the students have successfully made it to the other mat.

I could use this activity by breaking up the class into two groups, each with their own set of mats. The only extra rule that I would make is that there is no talking allowed. When both teams have all the members safely across to the other side I would bring all the students together to talk. I would have them discuss what things worked and did not work for them to be successful at the activity. I would also have the students talk about the different roles that were formed in each group (leaders, followers, helpers). After the discussion I would have the students go back and do the activity again using some of the strategies and ideas that they just learned.

The final phase of my three Turtle Projects was the most challenging of the three. Although all the students could relate to the experiences provided during the month there were just a couple who did not take the exercise seriously; thus resulting in some strong dialect amoung the group. But for the most part the group saw many benefits from the months activities and for many positive changes occured.

Also, along the way the students provided challenges to myself and others by providing feedback and various ways to help solve a situations. One of the biggest challenges was to develop a classroom code of effects. Through many trial and errors they developed a plan so that all could (to some degree) agree upon.
