Add-on Applications

  1. Go to the DPI website www.dpi.state.wi.us/tepdl/applications and print out the Initial In-State Teaching or Pupil Services ─ PI-1602-IS application (PI-1602-IS). If you are applying for a Reading Teacher or Reading Specialist License, print out the Initial In-State Administration or Reading - PI-1602-ADPDF application (PI-1602-IS).
  2. Follow the directions and fill out paperwork completely.
  3. If coursework has been taken at a non-UWSP campus for the additional license, please make sure to include a Xerox copy of those transcripts or report cards with your application packet.
  4. If official UWSP transcripts are needed for any additional paperwork (i.e. license renewal or out-of-state licenses), please use this website to order them: http://www.uwsp.edu/reg-rec/transcripts.aspx).
  5. Attach payment.
  6. Attach a copy of passing Praxis II test scores, if required.
  7. Mail all of the above to the Office of Field Experiences (address below) with a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE):
      Erin Blicharz
      Office of Field Experiences
      College of Professional Studies
      UW-Stevens Point
      Stevens Point, WI 54481
  8. A copy of ythe signed application will be sent to those who include the self-addressed, stamped envelope. The original license packet will be sent directly to the DPI.

NOTE 1: It typically takes 2-4 weeks to process and forward license applications to the DPI. DPI can take up to 16 weeks for processing. You may check the DPI website “Educator License Look-Up” if you would like to know if DPI has received your application: http://dpi.wi.gov/tepdl/licensing.html.

NOTE 2: If you received your initial teaching license prior to September 2004 and are under the old licensing rules, and you have taken the 6 required credits since you received your last license, you may want to apply for your renewal now as well (another application and another $100 to DPI). You can include this with the materials you send to UWSP. All of your licenses will rotate in the 5 year cycle after that.

If you fall under the old rules and do not renew your old license at the same time you add-on a license, DPI will require you to take 6 additional credits “since the last license was added” for renewal and they will renew all of them together. The credits you took for the new license will only count toward the 6 credits to renew your old license if you renew the same year you apply for the add-on license.
