Required Masters Program Component Courses Students wishing to incorporate the Technology & Leadership emphasis into a masters degree may do so via the Master of Science in Education-General masters degree administered by the UWSP School of Education. Students are required to complete 30 graduate level credits within seven years (21 inclusive semesters). Credits include required component course work in the areas of foundations, curriculum and research and a minimum of 21 additional credits including those credits listed below for Technology & Leadership emphasis. Contact School of Education-Graduate Advising to begin the graduate program admittance process. Elective Courses in Technology & Leadership The table on the following page lists the courses from which you may elect 21 additional credits. A minimum of six of those credits must be at the 700 level to meet the program requirements of a minimum of 15 credits at the 700 level. Refer to the pages listing course descriptions for further details regarding each of the courses listed. You will note that some courses which include a subtitle allow for the course to be repeated, provided the course is repeated with a different subtitle. Questions???The graduate

DESKTOP PUBLISHING (3 credits) Principles of design and their applications in the preparation and
production of desktop publishing of materials in the communication media

Freedom and Law. 3 cr. Examination of U.S. laws and regulations relating to freedom of speech
and of the press, regulation of advertising, and information gathering and
dissemination. COMM 530. Public
Relations Laboratory. 3 cr. Training in methods used by institutions to relate to their respective
publics. Subtitle will designate area. May be repeated for credit with
different subtitle. Prereq: 230 or cons instr. COMM 531. Public
Relations Campaign. 3 cr. Training in campaign planning including research, theme development, identifiction
of relevant publics and development of appropriate messages. Prereq: 230 or
cons instr. COMM 532. Public Relations Practicum. 3 cr. Training in execution of public relations campaign.
Emphasis on media relations, preparation of materials used in campaign, and
troubleshooting techniques. Prereq: 230 or cons instr. COMM 533. Case
Studies in Public Relations. 3 cr. Examination and criticism of various cases involving public relations
activities and campaigns. Prereq: 230 or cons instr. COMM 534. Writing
for Public Relations. 3 cr. Training in writing press releases, newsletters, brochures, and other
public relations tools. Prereq: 230 or cons instr. COMM 535. Ad
Copywriting. 3 cr. Training in writing advertising for various media including print,
broadcast, and direct mail. Prereq: 238 or cons instr. COMM 537. Advertising
Strategies. 3 cr. Training in development of advertising strategies designed to meet
specific objectives of an advertising campaign. Prereq: 238 or cons instr. COMM 538. Advertising
Laboratory. 3 cr. Training in methods used by institutions to relate to their respective
target markets. Typical offerings include: advertising strategies, media
planning, and advertising practicum. Subtitle will designate area. May be repeated
for credit with different subtitle. Prereq: 238 or cons instr. COMM 539. Advertising
Campaigns. 3 cr. Training in
development and execution of an advertising campaign. Target market selection,
theme development, creative strategy, and media planning, along with training
in developing sales promotion. Prereq: 238 or cons instr. COMM 540. Organizational
Communication Theory. 3 cr. Study of
communication theory and applications relating to private and public
organizations. Analysis of communication research, patterns, and strategy.
Prereq: 217. COMM 542. Organizational
Communication Laboratory. 3 cr. Organizational communication processes. Typical offerings include
leadership and management communication skills, communication training and
development, and communication and performance appraisal process. Subtitle will
designate area. May be repeated for credit with different subtitle. Prereq: 340 or cons instr. COMM 543. Organizational
Communication Assessment. 3 cr. Theories and procedures for assessing communication effectiveness in
organizations. Special attention is given to using communication audit
techniques and designing solutions to communication problems in organizations.
