Required Masters Program Component Courses Students
wishing to incorporate ESL certification into a masters degree may do so via
the Master of Science in Education-General masters degree administered by the
UWSP School of Education. Students are
required to complete the degree within seven years (21 semesters). Credits include required course work in the
areas of foundations, curriculum and research and a minimum of 21 additional
credits including those credits listed below for ESL Certification. A minimum of 15 credits being applied to the
masters degree are required to be at the 700-level. Contact School of Education-Graduate

-over please- - PROGRAM DETAILS - The
certification program involving English as a Second Language (ESL) is
administered through the Department of Foreign Languages. Further information regarding this

certification; however, those wishing to incorporate this certification within
a masters degree may do so in the Master of Science in Education-General
degree. This masters degree is
administered through School of Education-Graduate Advising. Those students wishing to pursue a masters
degree incorporating ESL certification will have two faculty advisors. A faculty member from education will chair
the advisory committee and a faculty member from the Department of Foreign
Languages will also serve on the student’s advising committee. Further

PLEASE NOTE This program outline is for “certification only” which has been completed for you by Dr. Tobias Barske. This evaluation is a result of your request for certification information in the area of English as a Second Language. It is possible to incorporate graduate level credits required for certification into the masters degree (MSE-General degree). However, you must apply for admission to the masters program before completion of nine graduate level credits. No more than nine completed graduate credits at the time of formal admission to graduate study may be applied to the masters degree (97-99 UWSP Graduate Catalog, p. 169). This certification outline is not the program plan for your masters (graduate) program of study; the certification outline and the masters outline are two separate documents.
