1. Will I have to travel to Madison to take classes?
No. Lecture classes use interactive videoconferencing, and labs are offered on each campus. The videoconference lectures have a regularly scheduled class meeting time, similar to a traditional class. Videoconference lectures are taught by a professor at either Madison or Stevens Point, and the professor and students in both locations are able to see and hear each other.
Because of the hands-on nature of lab classes, videoconferencing is NOT used for labs. Labs are taught in person on each campus, with both campuses using the same curriculum.
Approximately 1-3 times per semester, students and faculty get together on one campus for various activities such as orientation, lab tours, and capstone presentations. These activities alternate between Madison and Stevens Point, so you should expect to travel to the other campus about 1-2 times per semester. Students and/or faculty usually carpool for these events.
2. Are the AuD classes all online?
Several AuD classes are online; however, the majority of the classes are offered using videoconference lectures and on-site labs. See the answer to #1 for a description of the format for most classes.
The online classes occur during the summer between 1st and 2nd year, the summer between 2nd and 3rd year, and during the entire fourth year (June-May). Even though online classes do not require you to be in a specific physical location, you are still required to “attend” online class discussions and chats regularly. When taking online classes, you will need reliable, regular access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection.
3. Since this is a joint program, will the names of both schools be included on my diploma?
Yes, your diploma will indicate that you graduated from a joint program between UWSP and UW-Madison.
4. Is tuition the same at both campuses?
Yes, tuition for the joint AuD program is the same no matter which home campus you choose or are assigned to. Current tuition information can be found on the joint AuD website (http://www.aud.wisc.edu/tuition.htm).
5. Are scholarships and financial aid available?
Yes, scholarships and financial aid are available for students at both campuses. See the AuD website (http://www.aud.wisc.edu/scholarships.htm). In addition, check with the financial aid office on either campus for information about federal student loans.
6. How do I apply?
See the AuD website (http://www.aud.wisc.edu/), and click on “prospective students” and then “application process.”
7. What are the chances that I will be assigned to my preferred home campus?
We recognize that students may have important reasons, such as work or family obligations, for requesting a specific home campus. For that reason, we make every effort to assign each student to his or her preferred home campus. On the other hand, the number of students at each campus must be limited in order to provide all students with sufficient and broad clinical opportunities. If your preferred home campus is full, then you may be assigned to the other campus.
