Fall Conference 2009 - Keeping the EE in Green

Energy and Technology Toolkits for Educators
Thanks to a WEEB Grant, conference participants will have to
opportunity to receive an Energy and Technology Toolbox (ETT)!
The ETT contains a Kill-A-Watt meter and CFL light bulb along
with lesson plans, activities and resources directly related on
how to use the technology. This opportunity is only available to
the first 140 registered participants who will be able to attend
one of the four trainings at the conference. Now you will be
able to incorporate practical solutions and current technologies
into your classrooms, nature centers, field stations or
communities.
DNR Citizen Science Poster Program
On Friday, October 23rd from 4:30-6:00 during the exhibitors
social we will also be hosting the DNR Citizen Science Poster
Program. Read about all of the great accomplishments made in
citizen science and what programs are going on in your area.
Mingle with those that are involved and find out how to start
your own program!
Scholarships
- WAEE Educator Scholarship
Thanks to the 2007 MEEC and the Wisconsin River Academy, WAEE is happy to announce that there will be educator scholarships available again this year. These scholarships are open to formal and non-formal educators. This year there will be 10 full conference registration scholarships available which includes all meals during the conference. Applicants MUST be WAEE members. The scholarship application must be received prior to the conference registration and must be in the WAEE office prior to the early bird registration deadline of September 30, 2009. Thanks to generous donations at the Silent/Live Auction each year, WAEE is happy to continue to be able to offer our student scholarships. In the past this scholarship has only covered the registration cost, this year that will include meals. There are 18 partial scholarships of $50 each available to WAEE Student members for the 2009 Fall Conference. The scholarship application must be received prior to the conference registration and must be in the WAEE office prior to the early bird registration deadline of September 30, 2009. Application
Taste of Eau Claire and WAEE Annual Meeting
After dinner on Thursday night from 7:30 - 9:00, we will gather
together for the Taste of Eau Claire and WAEE Annual Member
Meeting. Find out what is new at WAEE, what is planned for the
future, welcome new members and socialize over tasty beverages
and desserts from local vendors.
Thursday Night Entertainment
Thursday evening will feature live entertainment from the East
Hill Bluegrass Band. This local group holds firm to the
traditional roots of bluegrass music while incorporating songs
from a variety of styles and eras. Listeners will hear the
influence of many artists, from Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass
Boys to the Rolling Stones. The band includes a mandolin, banjo,
guitar and bass, with tight vocal harmonies.
Recycling Program
Keeping the $$ in EE! This year, in keeping with the GREEN
spirit of the Conference, WAEE invites you to recycle your old
cell phones, ink cartridges and laptops - and earn money for EE
in Wisconsin while you're at it! Through the EcoPhones program,
each recyclable item you bring to the Fall Conference and
deposit at the registration table will earn money for WAEE.
Start collecting now and bring as many as you can - save ink
cartridges from your office and home, pick up old cell phones
amassed at your local mobile store, round up retired laptops -
they all help raise funds to support WAEE.
WAEE and School Forest Awards
Help us celebrate the achievements of those who have made a mark
in the field of environmental education this year at the 2009
WAEE and School Forest Awards Ceremonies Friday, October 23rd
from 6:00pm-8:00 pm.
Auction
A true WAEE tradition - you never know what to expect! Please
donate high quality merchandise or your zaniest treasure at the
registration table by noon on Friday. It is going to be a great
time for all! Don't forget your checkbook or credit card! All
proceeds go to support student scholarships and the Wisconsin
Environmental Education Fund. Auction takes place on Friday,
October 23rd from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.
Student Lodging (Full time students ONLY)
Students have special housing available at Beaver Creek Reserve
(www.beavercreekreserve.org). Cabins, holding 20 persons each,
will be made available for the nights of the conference.
Separate shower-house/restroom available. Students need to bring
their own bedding and clean any facilities that are used.
Transportation to and from convention center will not be
provided. Cost = $11 per night. Please add total lodging ($11 x
number of nights) cost to registration total.
Graduate Credit Opportunities
- The University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point will be offering NRES
703 - Leadership Development in Environmental Education during
the conference. The course is for one graduate credit. This is
great opportunity for students and all educators to get an even
more in-depth professional development experience while
attending the WAEE Fall Conference. Registration materials

- The University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point will be
offering NRES 730 sec 88 - Energy Education in the Classroom
held in conjunction with the WAEE Fall Conference. One
Graduate Credit is $75 (plus conference registration fees).
Integrate energy concepts into your curriculum with KEEP!
Through hands-on activities and class discussions, learn how
you can enhance your students' understanding of what energy
is, where it comes from, and how it affects their lives. You
will also receive a copy of KEEP's comprehensive,
easy-to-use Energy Education Activity Guide which features
various teaching strategies and assessment techniques to
reach students with a broad range of abilities. Teachers
will also be introduced to additional energy-related
educational materials. This course is for teachers who want
to experience it today and teach it tomorrow. Applicable
