Lake Joanis Rules and Fishing
 |
The lake is open for use during daylight hours (from dawn to
dusk). |
 |
Swimming and wading is not allowed, due to the dangerous steep depths
of the lake. |
 |
Fishing is allowed, as long as you have a valid state license
and follow all state regulations. Over the years, projects have
increased the diversity of fish by adding sunken habitats and introducing
game species. Fishermen and women now catch sunfish (bluegills and
pumpkin seeds), perch, rock bass, large-mouth bass, crappies, walleyes,
muskellunge (muskies), and northern pike. |
 |
Canoeing and row boating
are also allowed on the
lake. There are no
boat launches, so boats
must be carried in by
hand. |
 |
Motors of any type are
not allowed on the lake
in order to preserve its
natural character and
reduce disturbance to
wildlife. |
 |
In winter, ice fishing,
skating, and snowshoeing
are popular forms of
recreation. |
