What is
Heritage Interpretation?
Heritage
interpretation is a
communication process that
guides visitors in their search
for meanings in objects, places,
and landscapes.
Interpreters work
at parks, nature centers,
historic sites, zoos, aquariums,
and museums throughout the
world. They develop and lead
dynamic hikes and presentations,
design creative signs,
brochures, exhibits, and other
media, share important
information with visitors, and
inspire people to respect and
care for the world around them.
At UWSP, we teach a meaning-centered
approach to heritage
interpretation, which connects
visitors, resources, and the
interpreter/media.
