Coordinator of Advising and Recruitment
Advising and Retention: Supervise the operations of the CNR Student
Success Center, including the CNR Peer Advising Center. Oversee the advising of
all CNR freshmen, sophomores and transfer students. Advise all new CNR freshmen
and transfer students at orientation sessions. Advise all CNR students not
admitted to the CNR due to low GPA. Teach NR 001, a freshman seminar for CNR
majors. Coordinate the CNR Freshman Interest Group (FIG) program. Coordinate the
Four-Year-Graduation-Agreement for General Resource Management majors. Assist
with the proofing and editing of the CNR pages for the undergraduate catalog.
Maintain updated student records through the Major/Minor/Advisor system.
Coordinate the CNR Scholarship Program. Faculty representative for the Morris K.
Udall scholarship program. Coordinate acceptance into the Treehaven and Germany
summer camp programs. Develop informational materials for CNR students.
Authorize class waivers, substitutions, credit overloads, repetitions,
drop/adds. Perform graduation credit checks for all students who are applying
for graduation from the CNR. Coordinate enrollment management activities. Assign
tutors for CNR and Biology classes. Write letters of recommendation for CNR
students. Review CNR courses for the Transfer Information System (TIS).
Recruitment:
Meet with prospective students and their families. Develop brochures promoting the majors and minors of the CNR. Respond to letters of inquiry, phone calls and e-mails from prospective students and their parents. Speak at Pointer Perspective Days and ViewPoint Days. Visit area schools to speak at career days. Coordinate the CNR Career Day. Speak at the UWSP Women in Science Day and High School Environmental Action Conference. Develop and update articulation and transfer agreements with community and technical colleges. Visit community and technical colleges in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois to recruit prospective transfer students. Visit high schools throughout Wisconsin to recruit minority students in to the CNR. Coordinate the annual “Natural Resources Careers Workshop” for high school science teachers and guidance counselors.
