GENERAL ACADEMIC INFORMATION

Student Success Center Hours
Sue's walk-in hours are Mon. and Tues. from 2-3:30 and Wed. and Thurs. from 10-11:30. The CNR Student Success Center (CNR 180) is open Mon.-Fri. 8-4:30pm.

!Application To The CNR
Students who have completed 45 cr. and have a 2.00 GPA in major must apply for formal acceptance into the College of Natural Resources. Application forms are available in the CNR Student Success Center (CNR 180). The deadline for applications is Sept. 28.

New Majors
New majors in Resource Management: Law Enforcement and Resource Management: Policy are now available. Stop by CNR 180 to add these majors or to pick up the planning sheets.

European Seminar Guest visiting CNR: Dr. Katarzyna Sawicka-Kapusta, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland NEW
Dr. Katarzyna Sawicka-Kapusta will be visiting Stevens Point and the CNR Sept. 22-29. She has been involved in the CNR European Seminar for over 19 years as a guest lecturer and coordinator for the Poland stay. She will be lecturing on "Environmental Issues in Poland" on Tuesday, September 25 4-5:30 pm
 in CNR 120. A reception will follow. Open to the public, however, former European Seminar students are especially encouraged to attend. Contact Bobbi Kubish for more information.

Student Planning Association

We will be having our kick-off meeting on Wed, Sept. 26 at 7pm in CNR 122. Please attend and join if you are interested in land use issues. There will also be free pizza.

Environmental Educators and Naturalists Association (EENA/NAI
We're going to be having a potluck! It will be on Tues. Sept. 25 at 6pm in the WCEE (4th Floor LRC). We'll also be watching a movie. Hope to see you there.

Hey CNR Students! EVERY WEEK SGA votes on legislation that directly affects you as students! Let your CNR Senators know how YOU feel and what YOU want. Check out our new board in the first floor, south hallway of the CNR (right by the West Lobby). Share your thoughts and opinions on the latest legislation and take time to express any concerns you have for UWSP. We are here to represent you! Stop by and have your voice heard!

American Water Resources Association (AWRA)

The Wildlife Society
There will be no meeting this week because of the National Wildlife Society Conference in Arizona. We hope to see you next week on Tues, Oct. 2.

Society of American Foresters
Join SAF every Thurs. in CNR 170 at 5pm. We'll have a new "tree of the week", speaker, or activity for you every week. Hope to see you there!

Sustainable Agriculture in Communities Society
Stop by on Tuesdays from 3-6pm at the Campus garden across from the fire station to get fresh produce. We have all kinds of goodies including tomatoes, peppers, garlic, and eggplant. We will have meetings at the garden at 7:30pm on Tuesdays or CPS 234 if it rains. A lot of cool projects will be going on so check us out.


Parks and Recreation Association
Welcome back everyone! Come join us for some camping, grilling out, or just some R and R. Our meetings are every Wed. at 6pm CNR 361. Our first meeting will be Wed. Sept. 19. Hope to see you there! Email kwill752@uwsp.edu for more information or find us at the involvement fair this Thursday.

Fisheries Society
Join us for meetings every Wednesday at 5:30pm in CNR 320. There are lots of exciting fish surveys, guest speakers, and other projects planned for this semester. We hope to see you there!

Herpetology Society Meetings NEW
Meetings are
Mondays at 6PM in CNR 354. If you have a passion for Reptiles and Amphibians this is the place to be! Come and learn hands on care, handling, identifying and interesting facts about native and non-native herpetiles. The Herpetology Society has many speakers and field trips planned so come and join the fun.

Women in Natural Resources

Tues, Sept. 25, 4pm: Canoe paddling techniques. Staff from Outdoor EdVentures will teach us proper paddling techniques, so we can plan future canoe trips through WiNR.There will also be time to paddle around and have fun. Some snacks. Mon, Oct.  8, 4:30pm, meet in the CNR west lobby. Trap shooting with the Izaak Walton League. No prior experience necessary. This is a great way to try trap shooting in a safe and friendly environment. $5/person to cover the cost of shells and clays. Some snacks and beverages will be provided.

Wisconsin Camps - Kickoff Campfire NEW
Wisconsin Camps will be hosting their kickoff meeting Mon, Sept. 24 at 5pm. We will be meeting at the fire pit next to the Allen Center. There will be plenty of smores and hot dogs! (Bring your own beverage!) Wisconsin Camps is an organization devoted to camp and youth agencies. If you enjoy going to camp, working at a camp, or working with kids please stop by the campfire and check us out!

Resume Workshops
Fall resume workshops have been scheduled for the following dates and times. Workshops are open to all CNR and science majors and are free of charge. Here are the workshop sessions:

Workshops will be held in CNR 120 from 7 to 9 PM. All sessions are identical in content, so students need to attend only one program. Signup is NOT required. Make sure that you do not miss these outstanding opportunities.

Furbearer Ecology Workshop

Treehaven Classes and Workshops

GPS/GIS-Global Positioning Systems & Geographic Information Systems
This is an introductory workshop with hands-on exercises. Learn how these fascinating new technologies are reshaping our world and creating new paradigms of understanding. With this computer based technology, you will find applications for almost anyone interested in natural resources. Equipment will be used outside part of the time. No previous experience is necessary. Attention UWSP Students:

Workshop to weave your own beautiful, functional pair of Ojibwa, Bear Paw or Alaskan snowshoes.

Group Process and Facilitation Skills
Learn and practice group process and facilitation skills that can be used to develop highly effective teams that produce high quality results. Wolf Ecology Workshops
Experience shared learning with other wolf enthusiasts while tracking, studying in the classroom and field. You will experience actual tracking and a night time howling survey.

Wisconsin Green Industry Federation (WGIF) Scholarship
Deadline: Oct. 12

Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters� Conference Wildlife Research Scholarship
There is a newly-established Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters� Conference Wildlife Research Scholarship for CNR undergraduate students. The 2007 grant award will be $500 and will be given to a project that demonstrates the greatest potential for enhancing or promoting the future of healthy waterfowl populations and habitat in Wisconsin.

Applicants should submit a 1-page proposal to Dr. Eric Anderson that includes: 1) Project description/overview (e.g., problem/need and goal); 2) Project steps and timeline; and 3) Estimated project cost / budget. Awardee(s) will be chosen by WWHC representatives and must present their project results, progress or plans at the annual Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters� Conference in spring of 2008. Deadline for applying is Sept. 28.
