!Application To The CNR
Students who have completed 45 cr. and have a 2.00 GPA in major must apply for
formal acceptance into the College of Natural Resources. Application forms are
available in the CNR Student Success Center (CNR 180). The deadline for
applications is Sept. 28.
Timetable Now Online

The timetable for spring semester 2008 is now available online. You can access

Peer advising starts this week. Come in soon so you can get ready to register
for classes next semester. A sign up sheet will be available outside of the CNR
Student Success Center (CNR 180).
New Majors
New majors in Resource Management: Law Enforcement and Resource Management:
Policy are now available. Stop by CNR 180 to add these majors or to pick up the
planning sheets.
European Seminar Informational Meeting
NEW
The informational meeting for the 2008 European Environmental Studies Seminar to
Poland, Iceland and Germany will be held on Mon, Oct. 22 at 5pm in CNR 120. The
application for this program will be on-line after the meeting.
GIS Pre-registration
NEW
If you plan on taking a GIS class next semester (Geography 279 or 476) you must
pre-register with the geography department. The dates for pre-registration are
Oct. 22-Nov. 1. You may pre-register at the Geography/Geology Department office,
Science D332.
Help make sure the tax on your hunting and fishing equipment is going to
the right place!
To continue getting Wisconsin's share
of the federal excise tax you pay when you buy hunting and fishing equipment,
DNR needs to update its Fish, Wildlife and Habitat Management Plan for
2007-2013. You can help! Please take this
survey to share your thoughts on natural resource issues and priorities
Wisconsin needs to address over the next six years.

West Lobby). Share your thoughts and opinions on the latest legislation and take
time to express any concerns you have for UWSP. We are here to represent you!

Sustainable Agriculture in Communities Society
The first annual harvest dinner will be Oct. 14 at 6pm in the CPS Café hosted by
SACS. There will be a lot of great food,
music, speakers, and a presentation about what we did this summer in the garden. See
contact information if you are interested in attending.
Stop by the garden on Tuesdays. We
will be doing some projects starting at 6pm and meetings are at 7:30pm in the
garden or in CPS 234. A lot of cool projects will be going on so check us out.

Resume Workshops
Fall resume workshops have been scheduled for the following dates and times.
Workshops are open to all CNR and science majors and are free of charge. Here
are the workshop sessions:

Workshops will be held in CNR 120 from 7 to 9 PM. All sessions are identical in
content, so students need to attend only one program. Signup is NOT required.

Furbearer Ecology Workshop
There will be a workshop about the ecology, management, and trapping techniques
of furbearers. The workshop will be held Sept. 28-30 and costs only $25. Click

holding a 1-credit class, NR 405, Oct. 11-14, 2007 where you can learn about
hunting and participate in trap shooting and a pheasant hunt. Click title

2007 Fall Candlelight Hike: Going
Batty at Schmeeckle Reserve
NEW
The Candlelight Hike will feature a one-mile torch-lit trail through Schmeeckle
Reserve on Fri, Oct. 26 from 6:30-9:30pm. Eat
like a bat if you dare! Make your very own bat puppet and paint a pumpkin for
your doorstep while you're at it. We will
also be offering a new program this year, “Bats of Schmeeckle” that will be put
on by the students of the Environmental Education/Interpretation practicum. The
bats of central Wisconsin will come to life as they share their stories of
survival. Discover where our bats live,
what they eat and how they hunt. `Also
learn about the new bat monitoring station in Schmeeckle reserve and see how
researchers monitor bats by recording their sounds.

Treehaven Classes and Workshops
GPS/GIS-Global Positioning Systems & Geographic Information Systems
This is an
introductory workshop with hands-on exercises. Learn how these fascinating new
technologies are reshaping our world and creating new paradigms of
understanding. With this computer based technology, you will find applications
for almost anyone interested in natural resources. Equipment will be used
outside part of the time. No previous experience is necessary. Attention UWSP

Wisconsin Green Industry Federation (WGIF) Scholarship
Deadline: Oct. 12
Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters’ Conference Wildlife Research Scholarship
There is a newly-established Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters’ Conference Wildlife
Research Scholarship for CNR undergraduate students. The 2007 grant award will
be $500 and will be given to a project that demonstrates the greatest potential
for enhancing or promoting the future of healthy waterfowl populations and
habitat in Wisconsin.
Applicants should submit a 1-page proposal to Dr. Eric Anderson that includes:
1) Project description/overview (e.g., problem/need and goal); 2) Project steps
and timeline; and 3) Estimated project cost / budget. Awardee(s) will be chosen
by WWHC representatives and must present their project results, progress or
plans at the annual Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters’ Conference in spring of 2008.
Deadline for applying is Sept. 28.
Wisconsin Association of Professional Agricultural
Consultants (WAPAC) Scholarship

WAPAC is offering a $1,500 scholarship to students who have recently completed a
summer internship in an agriculture production field. Please stop by the CNR
