Student Success Center Hours
Sue's walk-in hours are Mon. from 1-2:30 and Wed. and Thurs. from 10-11:30. The CNR Student Success Center (CNR 180) is open Mon.-Fri. 8-4:30pm.

Students who have completed 45 cr. and have a 2.00 GPA in major must apply for formal acceptance into the College of Natural Resources. Application forms are available in the CNR Student Success Center (CNR 180). The deadline for applications is Sept. 28.

European Seminar Informational Meeting

The informational meeting for the 2008 European Environmental Studies Seminar to Poland, Iceland and Germany will be held on Mon, Oct. 22 at 5pm in CNR 120. The application for this program will be on-line after the meeting.

GIS Pre-registration
NEW
If you plan on taking a GIS class next semester (Geography 279 or 476) you must pre-register with the geography department. The dates for pre-registration are Oct. 22-Nov. 1. You may pre-register at the Geography/Geology Department office, Science D332.

    Sign up today for this 3 credit, once in a lifetime field course that combines natural resources (forestry, wildlife, waters, EE/I) and Mayan culture in two amazing countries. Explore the Yucatan Peninsula, biological reserves, national parks, rainforests, pine forests, a bat cave (over 10 million, 7 different species), Belize Zoo and Education Center, snorkel in the second largest barrier reef in the world and climb breathtaking Mayan temples.   • Tanzania, Africa Winterim

American Water Resources Association (AWRA)

Sustainable Agriculture in Communities Society
The first annual harvest dinner will be Oct. 14 at 6pm in the CPS Café hosted by SACS. There will be a lot of great food, music, speakers, and a presentation about what we did this summer in the garden. See contact information if you are interested in attending.  Stop by the garden on Tuesdays. We will be doing some projects starting at 6pm and meetings are at 7:30pm in the garden or in CPS 234. Herpetology Society Meetings

Meetings are
Mondays at 6PM in CNR 354. If you have a passion for Reptiles and Amphibians this is the place to be! Come and learn hands on care, handling, identifying and interesting facts about native and non-native herpetiles. The Herpetology Society has many speakers and field trips planned so come and join the fun.

Women in Natural Resources (WiNR)

Sat, Oct. 6, 12:30pm - ? – Apple and pumpkin picking at Helene’s Hilltop Orchard in Merrill. Afterwards, we will be baking up apple pies at Sue’s house!  Sue will provide sloppy joes for supper and we can eat the pies and ice cream for dessert!! Mon, Oct.  8, 4:30pm, meet in the CNR west lobby. Trap shooting with the Izaak Walton League. No prior experience necessary. This is a great way to try trap shooting in a safe and friendly environment. $5/person to cover the cost of shells and clays. Some snacks and beverages will be provided.

Fire Crew meetings are held weekly on Thursday evenings at 6pm in CNR 170, and our office is located in CNR 361A.

No matter what your major is, if you want to join an organization that is dedicated to working in, and learning more about restoring many different ecosystems, this is every Monday night. A set meeting location has not been decided, so meet outside of CNR 120 for the meeting this Mon, Oct. 1.

Resume Workshops
Fall resume workshops have been scheduled for the following dates and times. Workshops are open to all CNR and science majors and are free of charge. Here are the workshop sessions:

2007 Fall Candlelight Hike: Going Batty at Schmeeckle Reserve NEW
The Candlelight Hike will feature a one-mile torch-lit trail through Schmeeckle Reserve on Fri, Oct. 26 from 6:30-9:30pm. Eat like a bat if you dare! Make your very own bat puppet and paint a pumpkin for your doorstep while you're at it. We will also be offering a new program this year, “Bats of Schmeeckle” that will be put on by the students of the Environmental Education/Interpretation practicum. The bats of central Wisconsin will come to life as they share their stories of survival. Discover where our bats live, what they eat and how they hunt. `Also learn about the new bat monitoring station in Schmeeckle reserve and see how researchers monitor bats by recording their sounds.

GPS/GIS-Global Positioning Systems & Geographic Information Systems
This is an introductory workshop with hands-on exercises. Learn how these fascinating new technologies are reshaping our world and creating new paradigms of understanding. With this computer based technology, you will find applications for almost anyone interested in natural resources. Equipment will be used outside part of the time. The CNR undergraduate scholarship application will be available from October 1 - 31 on the Student Success Website -

Allow for approximately 1 hour to complete the application.  Also, please be VERY PROFESSIONAL on your application, as the information will be forwarded to the scholarship donors for their approval - typographical or grammatical errors and sloppy workmanship will prevent you from receiving favorable consideration from the donors. 
December 2007 graduates are not eligible for CNR scholarships
Graduate students - this scholarship application is for undergraduate students only.  Any CNR scholarships that are intended for graduate students will be chosen by the discipline in which the scholarship is housed. 

Wisconsin Green Industry Federation (WGIF) Scholarship

Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters’ Conference Wildlife Research Scholarship
There is a newly-established Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters’ Conference Wildlife Research Scholarship for CNR undergraduate students. The 2007 grant award will be $500 and will be given to a project that demonstrates the greatest potential for enhancing or promoting the future of healthy waterfowl populations and habitat in Wisconsin.

Applicants should submit a 1-page proposal to Dr. Eric Anderson that includes: 1) Project description/overview (e.g., problem/need and goal); 2) Project steps and timeline; and 3) Estimated project cost / budget. Awardee(s) will be chosen by WWHC representatives and must present their project results, progress or plans at the annual Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters’ Conference in spring of 2008. Deadline for applying is Sept. 28.

Wisconsin Association of Professional Agricultural Consultants (WAPAC) Scholarship
