Submissions to CNR Reporter
All information wishing to be in the CNR Reporter should be submitted by email to cnrreport@uwsp.edu using the form at http://www.uwsp.edu/cnr/reporter/CNRReporter_Article_Form.doc. Submissions are due by 9am Friday for the following weeks CNR Reporter.

!Hey Seniors!
If you are planning on graduating in the next two semesters, stop by the Registration and Records Office in 101 SSC and fill out a graduation application. This allows the registrar and your faculty advisor to review your DPR and make sure you have met all the requirements to graduate. This step only takes a minute but it can save you lots of trouble come graduation day!

!Application To The CNR
Students
who have completed 45 cr. and have a 2.00 GPA in major must apply for formal acceptance into the College of Natural Resources. Application forms are available in CNR Student Success Center (CNR 180). The deadline for applications is Sept. 30.

!CNR Scholarships
The CNR Undergraduate Scholarship application is now available on-line on the Student Success Center website at http://www.uwsp.edu/cnr/studentsuccesscenter/. Application deadline is Sept. 29 at 4pm.

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS

 GEM 'Critical Issues' International Seminar Series: Dr. Kevin Winter NEW
Dr. Kevin Winter from the Environmental & Geographical Science Department at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa will kick off the 2006-07 GEM 'Critical Issues' International Seminar Series with this years theme focused on Sustainable Communities. Winter's seminar topic is "Helping citizens build sustainable communities in South Africa." 
Kevin Winter is a lead researcher in the Integrated Urban Water Management research group based at UCT. Kevin combines his experience in education and environmental science to emphasize the need for dialogue and interaction with communities that are increasingly affected by deteriorating bio-physical conditions. The Wildlife Society
There will be no meeting on Sept. 26. Keep checking your emails for any project updates. There will be a meeting Oct. 3 at 5:30pm in CNR 170.

American Water Resources Association NEW
ATTENTION...If you're looking to have some fun in the water while gaining experience and knowledge in the Water Resources field come to our project kick-off meeting.  This Tuesday the 26th @ 5:00 p.m. in CNR rm. 240 we invite everyone interested in water to attend.  We have some exciting new projects this year that are looking for some energized students.  Food may be involved...  

Sustainable Agriculture in Communities Society
We hope you have seen us around at the involvement fair, at our bake sale, or at the garden.  Come to our meetings on Tuesdays at 7:00pm in CPS 116 to check out all the stuff we are doing.  September 30 is our trip to Bayfield to collect apples to be pressed into cider, October 8 is when the new hoophouse goes up, and sometime shortly after is when we will have a harvest dinner to celebrate.  We are also planning to do workshops on canning and cheese making as well as expanding our composting operation. Come check us out!

Waste Management Society NEW
Come to the Waste Management Society meeting on Mon. Sept. 25 at 5:30pm and see what is planned for the semester. The meeting will be held in room 255 of the CNR and there will be pizza so come hungry!

Women in Natural Resources
Monday, Sept. 25th... Come for fun and PIZZA. The WiNR board members will be talking about their summer internship experiences, and giving you great ideas for job opportunities. WiNR will be providing pizza. Please bring your own beverage.  CNR 255 @ 6:00 P.M.

Also, next weekend, Sept. 29-30, WiNR will be going camping and canoeing. No need for a canoe, we will be renting them. WiNR will provide snacks and breakfast. If you missed the deadline for sign up, and still want to come, let Maddie know ASAP at mturn704@uwsp.edu.

A Call For Outdoor Writers and Student Stories
NEW
The Pointer is looking to include more student stories to the Outdoors section of the student paper. They are particularly looking for someone to submit a brief, local weekly or monthly fishing report. If you are an avid hunter, hiker, camper or simply enjoy the outdoors then submit your ideas and interests to Anne Frie at afrie140@uwsp.edu. It is a great chance to get your name published!

Fall Semester Resume Workshops
NEW
Resume workshops focused towards students with majors in the sciences will be offered 7-9pm in #A201 Science Building by Mike Pagel from UWSP Career Services on the following dates:

Wed., Sept. 27
Tues., Oct. 17
Mon., Oct. 23
Thurs., Nov. 2
Wed., Nov. 29

All sessions are identical in content, so students only need to attend one session. The information obtained from one of these sessions will enable you to write a rough draft of your resume, after which you may make appointments to refine it. Participants should be prepared to take notes. Students graduating in Dec. '06 are encouraged to attend a session as soon as possible. Students graduating in May '07 are encouraged to attend a session by the end of this semester. All continuing students and faculty are welcome to attend. GIS/GPS Workshop

An introduction with hands-on exercises. Learn how these fascinating new technologies are reshaping our world and creating new paradigms of understanding. With this computer based technology, you will find applications for almost anyone interested in natural resources. No previous experience is necessary. The course is taught at Treehaven, Tomahawk, WI on Oct. 14-15 by Kevin Lawton. Weekend package costs $155 and includes instruction, all meals, and lodging. Commuter package costs $135. Wildlife Student Hunter Awareness Class

Sign up for NR 405/605, Wildlife Hunter Awareness, a one credit class. This class will teach students who have NOT hunted before, about the history, ethics, conservation, and passion of hunters and hunting while at the McGraw Wildlife Foundation property in Dundee, Illinois. Two sections are available, either Oct. 5-8 or Oct. 26-29. Space is limited. See Dr. Lueck in CNR 245 or email her at dlueck@uwsp.edu if interested.

Do you like spending time with kids in the outdoors? Are you looking to enhance your resume and gain excellent contacts and references? If so, Big Brothers/Big Sisters is looking for volunteers to take kids hunting, fishing, or just spend time outside. If you are interested contact Kimberly Williams at kwill752@uwsp.edu or come to the SLEA meetings on Mondays.

Volunteer Opportunity
The Humane Society of Portage County shelter is looking for volunteers to assist with the opening of their brand new building. People are needed to help guide visitors through the new facility, socialize with cats, walk dogs, and educate visitors and the public about everything from how the shelter benefits the community to pet care and dog bite prevention.
