If you are planning on graduating in the next two semesters, stop by the
Registration and Records Office in 101 SSC and fill out a graduation
application. This allows the registrar and your faculty advisor to review your
DPR and make sure you have met all the requirements to graduate. This step only
takes a minute but it can save you lots of trouble come graduation day!

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
GEM 'Critical Issues' International Seminar Series: Dr. Kevin Winter
Dr. Kevin Winter from the Environmental & Geographical Science Department at
the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa will kick off the 2006-07 GEM
'Critical Issues' International Seminar Series with this years theme focused on
Sustainable Communities. Winter's seminar topic is "Helping citizens build
sustainable communities in South Africa." Kevin Winter is a lead
researcher in the Integrated Urban Water Management research group based at UCT.
Kevin combines his experience
in education and environmental science to emphasize the need for dialogue and
interaction with communities that are increasingly affected by deteriorating
bio-physical conditions. For more information

Environmental Educators and Naturalist Association (EENA)

Come to our meeting this coming Tues. Oct. 3
at 7pm in CNR 122. Tom Quinn, the Program Manager at the Central Wisconsin
Environmental Station (CWES) will be with us to talk about volunteer
opportunities available at CWES. Great volunteer opportunities are available at
CWES, especially for aspiring environmental educators and interpreters! Come

Fisheries Society
NEW
The
Fisheries Society will meet at 5:30pm in CNR 120 on Wed. Oct. 4. All other
Fisheries Society meetings will be in CNR 122 on Wed.'s at 5:30pm. Up coming
events include: Tim Goeman of the Minnesota DNR will be recruiting employees on
Oct. 11, Alumni Banquette on Oct. 20 and the Wisconsin River Survey, Oct.
20-22. Everyone is welcome.
Women in Natural Resources
(WiNR) NEW
Join
WiNR and the Izaac Walton League in trap shooting on Tues. Oct. 10 at 4:30pm.
Meet in the West Lobby of the CNR. No prior experience necessary. This is a
great way to try trap shooting in a safe and friendly environment. $5/person to
cover the cost of shells and clays. Snacks will be provided. Please note the
date change from Oct. 2 to Oct. 10.
Undergraduate Research Planning Committee NEW

We will be discussing the upcoming wastewater conference and finalizing events

Sustainable
Agriculture in Communities Society NEW
We hope
you have seen us around at the involvement fair, at our bake sale, or at the
garden. Come to our meetings on Tues. at 7pm in CPS 116 to check out all
the stuff we are doing. Sept. 30 is our trip to Bayfield to collect apples
to be pressed into cider, Oct. 8 is when the new hoophouse goes up, and
sometime shortly after is when we will have a harvest dinner to celebrate. We
are also planning to do workshops on canning and cheese making as well as
expanding our composting operation. Come check us out!
Soil and Water
Conservation Society NEW
It's time you stop treating your soil like dirt. Come join the Soil and
Water Conservation Society on Thursdays at 5:30pm in CNR 255 and participate in
exciting activities including college days for kids, soil judging, soil
grinding, and professional speakers.
Student Law Enforcement Association NEW
Our next meeting will be this upcoming Mon. in CNR 170 at 6:00pm. Come
and see what we have to offer for your environmental law enforcement career. New

A Call For Outdoor Writers and
Student Stories
The Pointer is looking to include more student
stories to the Outdoors section of the student paper. They are particularly
looking for someone to submit a brief, local weekly or monthly fishing report.
If you are an avid hunter, hiker, camper or simply enjoy the
outdoors then submit your ideas and interests to Anne Frie at
afrie140@uwsp.edu. It is a great chance
to get your name published!
Fall Semester Resume Workshops
Resume workshops focused towards students with majors in the sciences
will be offered 7-9pm in #A201 Science Building by Mike Pagel from UWSP Career
Services on the following dates:
Wed., Sept. 27
Tues., Oct. 17
Mon., Oct. 23
Thurs., Nov. 2
Wed., Nov. 29
All sessions are identical in content, so students only need to attend
one session. The information obtained from one of these sessions will enable you
to write a rough draft of your resume, after which you may make appointments to
refine it. Participants should be prepared to take notes. Students graduating in
Dec. '06 are encouraged to attend a session as soon as possible. Students
graduating in May '07 are encouraged to attend a session by the end of this
semester. All continuing students and faculty are welcome to attend. Contact

GIS/GPS Workshop
An introduction
with hands-on exercises. Learn how these fascinating new technologies are
reshaping our world and creating new paradigms of understanding. With this
computer based technology, you will find applications for almost anyone
interested in natural resources. No previous experience is necessary. The course
is taught at Treehaven, Tomahawk, WI on Oct. 14-15 by Kevin Lawton. Weekend
package costs $155 and includes instruction, all meals, and lodging. Commuter

Wildlife Student Hunter Awareness Class
Sign up for NR 405/605, Wildlife Hunter Awareness, a one credit class.
This class will teach students who have NOT hunted before, about the history,
ethics, conservation, and passion of hunters and hunting while at the McGraw
Wildlife Foundation property in Dundee, Illinois. Two sections are available,
either Oct. 5-8 or Oct. 26-29. Space is limited. See Dr. Lueck in CNR 245 or

looking for volunteers to take kids hunting, fishing, or just spend time

Volunteer Opportunity
The Humane Society of Portage County shelter is looking for volunteers
to assist with the opening of their brand new building. People are needed to
help guide visitors through the new facility, socialize with cats, walk dogs,
and educate visitors and the public about everything from how the shelter
benefits the community to pet care and dog bite prevention. Please contact
