for all programs beginning in the summer of 2007. These are given to UWSP
students based on several factors, but merit, rather than need, is a hallmark
for these scholarships. UWSP continuing students are strongly encouraged to

Phi Kappa
Phi Honor Society Study Abroad Scholarships
Have you
wanted to travel internationally? Are you looking for extra money to do so? Do
you have between 30 and 90 credit hours earned, and a GPA of at least 3.5? If
you answered yes to these questions then be sure to check out the Study Abroad
Grant (due February 17, 2006). Annually, fifty $1,000 grants are awarded
by Phi Kappa Phi and last year three UWSP students won. You DO NOT have to be a
member to apply but read their website for qualifications carefully. One
condition is that the study abroad program must be taken between May 1, 2007 and

This wolf
workshop will provide the latest information about the timber wolf in Wisconsin.
Participants will learn about wolf ecology and society, pack structure,
predator-prey relationship, and about the past, present, and future of the wolf,

tracking may be done so don�t forget to bring your boots.

2007 Forestry Banquet

Tickets will be sold for the 2007 Forestry Banquet in the CNR West Lobby from
Wed, Jan. 31 through Fri, Feb. 9 or at the Society of American Foresters
meetings at 5pm on Thur. in CNR 170. Costs will be $13 for students and $18 for
professionals. The banquet will be held at the Elks Lodge #641 in downtown
Stevens Point located at 1132 Clark Street (HWY 10 East). There is plenty of
parking near the Elks Lodge. Contact Steve Kaufman (skauf521@uwsp.edu) for
directions. The evening's events will begin with a social hour at 6pm in the
Elks Lodge, followed by the dinner/speaker, beginning at 7pm. This year's
speaker will be a representative from the Wisconsin DNR Forest Health Department
who will be giving a talk on the Emerald Ash Borer, specifically about its
affects on all the different forestry emphasis. Entertainment will then follow
the speaker.

Garden Club of America has recently established a
national fellowship in urban forestry for qualified U.S. students. The
fellowship is open to both advanced undergraduate and graduate students pursuing

is seeking 3 summer field technicians to assist a graduate student with research
on passerine bird communities of peatlands in Wisconsin. Duties will include
conducting bird point counts and sampling vegetation at study sites
statewide. Desirable applicants must have experience with point count surveys
and eastern bird identification (both audio and visual). GPS navigation,
topographic map reading skills, and ability to use a compass also are
necessary. Experience identifying wetland and/or peatland vegetation and forest
measurement techniques are a plus. Must be able to travel extensively and work
alone in early mornings and under rigorous field conditions. Interns would be
