Tutoring for Biology and NR Classes

Study Abroad Scholarships Available for all UWSP Students
Apply today if you are planning to travel summer, fall or winterim 2007! IPSE (International Programs Scholarship Endowment) scholarships are now available for all programs beginning in the summer of 2007. These are given to UWSP students based on several factors, but merit, rather than need, is a hallmark for these scholarships. UWSP continuing students are strongly encouraged to apply. Deadline for all 2007 programs is March 15, 2007 -- ACT NOW. Details and application (http://www.uwsp.edu/studyabroad/). Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Study Abroad Scholarships 
Have you wanted to travel internationally? Are you looking for extra money to do so? Do you have between 30 and 90 credit hours earned, and a GPA of at least 3.5? If you answered yes to these questions then be sure to check out the Study Abroad Grant (due February 17, 2006). Annually, fifty $1,000 grants are awarded by Phi Kappa Phi and last year three UWSP students won. You DO NOT have to be a member to apply but read their website for qualifications carefully. One condition is that the study abroad program must be taken between May 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008 (European Seminar would apply!). Atttention Students! Come learn about the exciting projects taking place in AWRA including the new Rain Garden project. Also, at this weeks meeting there will be an exciting presentation given on water resources which members will be presenting at their alma mater or local schools. Additionally, the state AWRA meeting in Wisconsin Dells will be talked about. Secchi disks will be assembled after the meeting again this week for those who can stay. Meetings are every Tues. at 5pm in CNR 240. Experience shared learning with other wolf enthusiasts while tracking and studying in the classroom and field. You will experience actual tracking and a nighttime howling survey.

Introduction to Wolves
This wolf workshop will provide the latest information about the timber wolf in Wisconsin. Participants will learn about wolf ecology and society, pack structure, predator-prey relationship, and about the past, present, and future of the wolf, including the myths and misunderstandings. Weather and time permitting, some tracking may be done so don�t forget to bring your boots.

Fly Tying & Trout Stream Entomology
This favorite workshop will introduce you to: basic fly tying techniques, tools and materials, trout stream invertebrates, stream ecology, resource ethics, and theories on hatch matching and fly presentation. You�ll have loads of fun learning to tie common, effective fly patterns for trout at a fraction of the cost!

2007 Forestry Banquet
Tickets will be sold for the 2007 Forestry Banquet in the CNR West Lobby from Wed, Jan. 31 through Fri, Feb. 9 or at the Society of American Foresters meetings at 5pm on Thur. in CNR 170. Costs will be $13 for students and $18 for professionals. The banquet will be held at the Elks Lodge #641 in downtown Stevens Point located at 1132 Clark Street (HWY 10 East).   There is plenty of parking near the Elks Lodge.  Contact Steve Kaufman (skauf521@uwsp.edu) for directions. The evening's events will begin with a social hour at 6pm in the Elks Lodge, followed by the dinner/speaker, beginning at 7pm. This year's speaker will be a representative from the Wisconsin DNR Forest Health Department who will be giving a talk on the Emerald Ash Borer, specifically about its affects on all the different forestry emphasis.  Entertainment will then follow the speaker.

Illinois Natural History Survey Assistant Creel Clerks
The creel clerk will interview anglers, weigh, measure, and identify fish in possession of anglers and record data relating to harvest, effort, and expenditures by anglers. Peatland Bird Survey Technician

UW Stevens Point is seeking 3 summer field technicians to assist a graduate student with research on passerine bird communities of peatlands in Wisconsin.  Duties will include conducting bird point counts and sampling vegetation at study sites statewide. Desirable applicants must have experience with point count surveys and eastern bird identification (both audio and visual). GPS navigation, topographic map reading skills, and ability to use a compass also are necessary. Experience identifying wetland and/or peatland vegetation and forest measurement techniques are a plus. Must be able to travel extensively and work alone in early mornings and under rigorous field conditions.  Interns would be paid $12/hr and would work throughout Wisconsin from mid-May through July 15. Jefferson County Conservation Board is looking for a park ranger intern to assist in the maintenance of nine county parks. Duties include collection of camping fees, monitoring shelter and cabin rentals, enforcement of park rules and regulations, general park maintenance, assist Naturalist in environmental education programs, and assist in forestry and vegetation management and trail construction.
