CNR Career Fair
The 10th annual CNR Career Fair will take place on
Thurs, Feb. 15 from 10am-3pm in the 1st floor lobbies of the CNR Building. Over
30 employers will be present to provide information on summer jobs, internships
and permanent positions. Stop by with your resume and see what positions are

Tutoring for Biology and NR Classes
Biology and Natural Resource class tutoring begins next week, Feb. 5. The cost
is only $10 for the semester and you can sign up for as many tutoring groups as

Lost and Found
A silver beaded necklace was found on the floor of the stairwell last Tues. It

Additional GEM Ambassador Positions Open for Summer 2007
Two more Gem Ambassadors
are needed! One position is open in Guatemala and one more in China for the
Summer 07. Guatemalan candidates should have a basic understanding of Spanish.

several factors, but merit, rather than need, is a hallmark for these

Phi Kappa
Phi Honor Society Study Abroad Scholarships
Have you
wanted to travel internationally? Are you looking for extra money to do so? Do
you have between 30 and 90 credit hours earned, and a GPA of at least 3.5? If
you answered yes to these questions then be sure to check out the Study Abroad
Grant (due February 17, 2006). Annually, fifty $1,000 grants are awarded
by Phi Kappa Phi and last year three UWSP students won. You DO NOT have to be a
member to apply but read their website for qualifications carefully. One
condition is that the study abroad program must be taken between May 1, 2007 and

Students! Come learn about the exciting projects taking place in AWRA including
the new Rain Garden project. Also, at this weeks meeting there will be an
exciting presentation given on water resources which members will be presenting
at their alma mater or local schools. Additionally, the state AWRA meeting in
Wisconsin Dells will be talked about. Secchi disks will be assembled after the
meeting again this week for those who can stay. Meetings are every Tues. at 5pm
in CNR 240. Pizza will be served!

Fishing Derby which is this Sat, Feb. 10 from 8:30am-3:30pm on McDill Pond. We

Our annual Ice Fishing Derby
is this Sat, Feb. 10 from 8:30am-3:30pm on McDill Pond. We will be located just
out from Michael Koziczkowski Park. Take Business 51 south from Campus, turn
left on Minnesota, right on Della, right on Soo Marie and you'll be at the
park. If you would like to take drive your vehicle, snowmobile, or ATV on the
ice you must drive on from Heffron Street. Take Business 51 south, turn left on
Heffron and you'll get to the landing, just turn right, come around the point
and you'll see our tent. We'll have plenty of prizes!!!

Wolves
This wolf
workshop will provide the latest information about the timber wolf in Wisconsin.
Participants will learn about wolf ecology and society, pack structure,
predator-prey relationship, and about the past, present, and future of the wolf,
including the myths and misunderstandings. Weather and time permitting, some
tracking may be done so don�t forget to bring your boots.

Trout Stream Entomology

workshop will introduce you to: basic fly tying techniques, tools and materials,
trout stream invertebrates, stream ecology, resource ethics, and theories on

common, effective fly patterns for trout at a fraction of the cost!

2007 Forestry Banquet
Tickets will be sold for the 2007 Forestry Banquet in the CNR West Lobby from
Wed, Jan. 31 through Fri, Feb. 9 or at the Society of American Foresters
meetings at 5pm on Thur. in CNR 170. Costs will be $13 for students and $18 for
professionals. The banquet will be held at the Elks Lodge #641 in downtown
Stevens Point located at 1132 Clark Street (HWY 10 East). There is plenty of
parking near the Elks Lodge. Contact Steve Kaufman (skauf521@uwsp.edu) for
directions. The evening's events will begin with a social hour at 6pm in the
Elks Lodge, followed by the dinner/speaker, beginning at 7pm. This year's
speaker will be a representative from the Wisconsin DNR Forest Health Department
who will be giving a talk on the Emerald Ash Borer, specifically about its
affects on all the different forestry emphasis. Entertainment will then follow
the speaker.

Monitoring and Assessment Section is seeking two summer wetland monitoring
assistants. Assistants will work with wetland monitoring biologists to identify,
measure, collect, and record various types of biological, chemical and physical
data from wetlands and shallow lakes located in north central/west Iowa. The
objectives of this project are to assess the ecological condition of wetlands
related to statewide initiatives to improve water quality. Applicants must have

The creel clerk will interview anglers, weigh, measure, and
identify fish in possession of anglers and record data relating to harvest,
effort, and expenditures by anglers. Qualifications needed are at least two
years of college education with training in fisheries or related field,
familiarity with Lake Michigan sport fish, and a valid drivers license as well
as access to a car. Ability to interact with the public is strongly preferred.

is seeking 3 summer field technicians to assist a graduate student with research
on passerine bird communities of peatlands in Wisconsin. Duties will include
conducting bird point counts and sampling vegetation at study sites
statewide. Desirable applicants must have experience with point count surveys
and eastern bird identification (both audio and visual). GPS navigation,
topographic map reading skills, and ability to use a compass also are
necessary. Experience identifying wetland and/or peatland vegetation and forest
measurement techniques are a plus. Must be able to travel extensively and work
alone in early mornings and under rigorous field conditions. Interns would be
paid $12/hr and would work throughout Wisconsin from mid-May through July 15.
