Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Study Abroad Scholarships
Have you wanted to travel internationally? Are you looking for extra money to do so? Do you have between 30 and 90 credit hours earned, and a GPA of at least 3.5? If you answered yes to these questions then be sure to check out the Study Abroad Grant (due Feb. 17, 2006). Annually, fifty $1,000 grants are awarded by Phi Kappa Phi and last year three UWSP students won. You DO NOT have to be a member to apply but read their website for qualifications carefully. One condition is that the study abroad program must be taken between May 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008 (European Seminar would apply!). Check out the Phi Kappa Phi website for more information: http://www.phikappaphi.org/Web/Scholarships/. Stop by my office or email with any questions: Bobbi Kubish, CNR 174; bkubish@uwsp.edu.

Why Study Abroad? Reason # 4

  1. International Networks International programs provide a once-in-a-lifetime chance to network with natural resource professionals from all over the world, learn new and diverse management techniques, get hands-on experience, observe unique and exotic flora and fauna, and establish lifelong friendships with foreign and student peers and university faculty. These opportunities also allow you to become more prepared for the globalizing business and academic worlds, including the realm of natural resource management.

Stay tuned for more reasons to study abroad!

Study in Botswana, Africa
NEW
There is an opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students to go to Africa and spend one or two semesters with a respective department from the University of Botswana. This would be a challenging experience and opportunity to study with Botswana students. Please contact Prof. Holm or Prof. Havik for more details (see attachment for more information). This is not a CNR or UWSP related study abroad and quality of program cannot be guaranteed.

Snorkel, bird watch, hike in a rainforest, enjoy the sun!  There are still one or two more spots left for Costa Rica or Mexico/Belize 06/07! Reserve your spot by applying in the Office of International Programs (IP) (CCC 108). Apply today if you want to spend your winterim in warm weather! If you have any questions, would like to see slides/photographs, or need an application visit Bobbi Kubish in CNR 174 or the Office of IP in CCC 108.

Attention Forestry Majors

Are you interested in comparing harvesting in the United States with harvesting systems in Germany? If so, why not consider a harvesting system field course at the University of Freiburg, Germany (approximate dates of Jan. 8-12, 2007)? For those of you who will be taking Forestry 329 with Dr. Harms during one of the next two semesters (Spring or Fall 07), the experience can be used towards a class assignment. This is a great opportunity to get international experience at relatively low cost. Contact Bobbi Kubish (CNR 174, bkubish@uwsp.edu; 346-3831) for more information.

Tutors Needed
Kappa Delta Phi, the School of Education Honor Society, works with Pacelli High School to set up weekly university tutors for students who request them. Tutors are needed to help students in all different areas of academics, but especially Ecology, Biology, and Physical Science.
The tutors are matched one to one, so the UWSP student will work with the same high school student each time.  This program has be in operation for several years, and it has been quite a success. The times for tutoring are during the regular Pacelli school day (7:30am-3:30pm) and the time would be set up to best meet the university students schedule.

Interested students can contact Bobbi Jo Van De Loo at bvand215@uwsp.edu.  Please indicate the time and course you would prefer to tutor.
