Phi Honor Society Study Abroad Scholarships:
Have you
wanted to travel internationally? Are you looking for extra money to do so? Do
you have between 30 and 90 credit hours earned, and a GPA of at least 3.5? If
you answered yes to these questions then be sure to check out the Study Abroad
Grant (due February 17, 2006). Annually, fifty $1,000 grants are awarded
by Phi Kappa Phi and last year three UWSP students won. You DO NOT have to be a
member to apply but read their website for qualifications carefully. One
condition is that the study abroad program must be taken between May 1, 2007 and

Fight Mercury Pollution!
Learning
about pollution to our world's waterways in class and want to know how take an
active role in fighting this pollution? Come to a meeting of the new student
organization Wavemakers! We are working on a campaign targeting the mercury
pollution being produced at the chlorine plant in Port Edwards. Actively take
part in influencing the plant to upgrade to environmentally friendly technology.

Pesticide
Applicator Training
NEW
The CNR will be hosting a one-day training session
for individuals interested in obtaining a commercial Applicator license for
Forestry applications. The purpose of this session is to educate pesticide
applicators so that they will protect themselves, others, property, and the
environment when they use pesticides and to provide pesticide applicators with
the knowledge they need to pass the certification exam. The workshop will be
held in the CNR 122 on Fri, Jan. 19, 2007 from 8am to 4pm.

Wisconsin's Pesticide Applicator Training Program does NOT advocate pesticide
use over other means of pest management. Rather, it focuses on the safe and
proper use of pesticides by individuals who have already determined that
pesticides are necessary in a given situation.

Learn to
Telemark Weekend
This unique and exciting clinic is primarily focused at beginner to
intermediate level skiers, but Telemark skiing can add a whole new dimension to your winter recreation options! Snowboarders and alpine skiers at
any level will enjoy the challenge and thrill that freeheal skiing can provide.
We will backcountry tour and chairlift/t-bar the groomed runs on both days.
Everyone will have plenty of opportunity to learn map reading, how to select
gear, what to bring in the backcountry, and how to Telemark ski. Participants
should be prepared for moderate physical exercise and our Wisconsin winter
weather. Industry representatives will be available to display and answer
questions about new equipment. You will be staying at scenic Treehaven Education
and Conference Center, a Field Station of UWSP College of Natural Resources,
located just 10 minutes from the ski hill at Tomahawk. WHEN: 9am Sat. to 4pm
Sun, Jan. 13-14, 2007.
INSTRUCTORS: Experienced Telemark ski instructors.
FEE: Ranging from $47-$62.00 based on choice of lodging accommodations. NOTE:

Downhill Ski

Free lessons to beginners by trained instructors at Camp Ten Ski Hill are even
included in this inexpensive, all inclusive downhill ski package. Camp Ten is a

Rhinelander, WI, with numerous runs, a chair lift, rope tow, lunch counter and

Introduction to
Wolves
This wolf
workshop will provide the latest information about the timber wolf in Wisconsin.
Participants will learn about wolf ecology and society, pack structure,
predator-prey relationship, and about the past, present, and future of the wolf,
including the myths and misunderstandings. Weather and time permitting, some
tracking may be done so don�t forget to bring your boots.

& Trout Stream Entomology
This favorite
workshop will introduce you to: basic fly tying techniques, tools and materials,
trout stream invertebrates, stream ecology, resource ethics, and theories on
hatch matching and fly presentation. You�ll have loads of fun learning to tie
common, effective fly patterns for trout at a fraction of the cost!
