Craig Bollig edged teammate Tyler Wozniak for
third place at 184 pounds and Jake Wozniak had a strong performance at
157 pounds to lead the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team at Saturday�s
Wisconsin Open in Kenosha. No team scores were kept at the meet.
Bollig rebounded from a 5-2 loss to top-ranked
Jason Lulloff of UW-La Crosse and then defeated Tyler Wozniak 3-2 in the
third place match. Bollig and Tyler Wozniak each won four matches, while
Wozniak suffered his only other loss 10-8 to Kyle Frawley, the
sixth-ranked 184-pounder in the NAIA from Lindenwood (Mo.).
Jake Wozniak won his first two matches before
suffering a 2-1 setback to defending NCAA Division II 149-pound national
champion Anthony Guerra of Findlay (Ohio). He rebounded for a
consolation win before settling for fourth place.
Jered Kern added three victories at 133
pounds, including a pin and a major decision win. Jake Calhoun opened
with two first period pins at 125 pounds and Chris Brown had two major
decision wins at 157 pounds. Greg Lapinski added two victories at 141
pounds and Chris Karl notched two wins at 165 pounds. |
