Relay Teams Earn Automatic Marks

UW-Stevens Point posted automatic qualifying
performances in both the men�s and women�s 1600-meter relays for next
week�s NCAA Division III indoor track and field championships to
highlight Saturday�s Pointer Qualifier in Stevens Point.
The men�s relay of Adam Baumann, Ryan
Schroeder, Kyle Steiner and Nick VerDuin set a school record with a time
of 3:15.63, but still finished second to UW-La Crosse. The Eagles
clocked 3:15.29 as the two teams ran the second and third-fastest times
in Division III this season and also both eclipsed the Multi-Activity
Center�s track record.
The women�s relay of Andrea Irvine, Bree
Peterson, Kathleen Folbrecht and Laura Simonis also set a school record
by over two and a half seconds and had an automatic
qualifying mark while finishing six-hundreths of a second behind UW-La
Crosse with a time of 3:54.06.
The men�s distance medley relay team of Greg
Haak, Pat Leonard, Travis Nechuta and Dom Meyer also improved its
standing for the national meet with a provisional time of 10:02.89,
placing five-hundreths of a second behind Loras.
VerDuin added a provisional mark in the
400-meter dash at 49.26 seconds and Peter Prusinski finished with a
provisional throw in the shot put at 51 feet, 4.5 inches.
No team scores were kept at Saturday�s meet.
The NCAA indoor championships will be held March 9-10 in Terre Haute,
Ind. |
