Red Hot With Another Sweep
UW-Stevens Point�s softball team stayed red hot
by rolling to two more victories in Kissimmee, Fla. on Thursday and
extending its winning streak to six games.
The Pointers beat Smith (Mass.) 7-2 in their
opening game and then blanked Millikin 6-0 to improve to 10-2 overall for
the season.
In the opener, Mandy Jellish and Korryn Brooks
were each three-for-four. The Pointers built a 5-0 lead after five innings
and led 5-2 in the sixth before Danielle Ashbeck broke the game open with
a two-run double in the bottom of the inning. Chelsea McIlquham was
two-for-three in the victory.
Stephanie Anderson pitched a complete game for
the win, scattering eight hits and striking out nine batters.
Hope Krause pitched a complete game shutout in
the second game with two strikeouts. Krause allowed seven hits in hurling
her third career shutout. UW-Stevens Point led 3-0 until scoring three
runs in the top of the seventh.
The Pointers pounded out 13 hits in the victory
with Anderson leading the way at three-for-four. Brooks and McIlquham were
each two-for-four, while Laura Van Abel was two-for-four with a triple and
Melissa Boldt was two-for-three.
UW-Stevens Point completes its trip with two
more games on Friday against Illniois Wesleyan and Carleton. |
